Welcome to the Home Page of the Croydon Orchestral Ensemble |
| Since it’s formation in 1953, the orchestra has offered enthusiastic amateurs, with a range of abilities, the opportunity to play together in an atmosphere, which aims to promote enjoyment in music making. The Musical Director, David Porter has been in control since late 2002 and under his direction the orchestra has made significant strides forward both as regards music and administration. Development of the orchestra was recently given a further boost by receipt of a grant from “Awards for All” (A lottery fund element). The repertoire encompasses many classical works as well as those of a lighter nature. The orchestra has a long association with Saint Mildred’s Church, Addiscombe. The church hall has been the centre for rehearsals and concerts since 1965.The move to the new church centre in 2006 was very welcome. The improved facilities and acoustics has given the orchestra a significant boost.. The Orchestra meets at the church centre once a week on Tuesdays from 8.00pm to 10.00pm.
