Concerts

The orchestra is firmly of the opinion that in order to raise standards it is essential to regularly perform in public. The aim is to perform at least three times per annum.
The most recent concert was held on December 3rd, 2011 and was received enthusiastically by the audience.

"Die Felsenmuhle" by Reissiger made a rousing overture, while a selection from "South Pacific" (Richard Rogers)was played with feeling. Ali Kidd was the soloist in Haydn's Trumpet concerto, producing a beautiful interpretation of the work and delighting the audience. Also performed was a contemporary piece "Chorale" by Brian Wilshere this had a calm, serene atmosphere, in contrast to some of the other pieces. "La Corrida" (Payne) and "Christmas Memories" (Finck) completed a most enjoyable evening.

The next concert will take place on Saturday March 24th 2012, at St Mildred's Church, Bingham Road, CR0 7EB (near the Addiscombe tram stop), when the orchestra will present a Viennese Evening.  THe programme will include: Overture to Euryanthe (C.M. Von Weber); Poet and Peasant (Franz von Suppe); The Student Prince Suite (Sigmund Romberg); part of Schuberts' Symphony no. 3; The Merry Widow (Franz Lehar), and of course music by Johan Strauss (Junior and Senior).  Wine and soft drinks will be available in the interval.
